![]() The problem with treating them as two seperate "cuts", ala Blade Runner, is that it would take two complete viewings to experience every part of the original series. I feel like the near universally accepted viewing order (1-20, 21'-24', 25-26, EoE) actually does both finales a disservice in that it forces EoTV to deal with the added EoE-related subplots of the director's cuts, but it also creates a dramatic buffer between 24' and EoE that robs EoE of some of it's immediate… ahem… impact. One path is the broadcast versions of episodes 21-26 and the other path is the director's cuts of episodes 21'-24' (marked with the apostrophes) and EoE (episodes 25'-26'). I subscribe to the hard split theory in terms of timeline, in that the show goes two paths after episode 20. In terms of the endings, I'm really conflicted about Evangelion viewing orders. It's really hard to top Megumi Ogata's performance as Shinji, which I might just call the best voice acting performance ever. I've watched the dub, but it left a sour taste in my mouth. Do you get different experiences from the different audio tracks? I'm also curious if you have bothered to watch both the dub and sub versions. I was wondering if your experience with the endings has shifted a lot over the years or how learning that there were more parts, learning more about the series from supplemental material, being at a different point in your life, and having seen the show multiple times might have changed your experience with Eva. I got those same feelings of "oh my god this ending is damn near perfect" that I did as a teenager and, the second half of EoE didn't feel quite the same. It just gave me this feeling of incompleteness or something. Since learning about/purchasing EoE 2 or 3 years ago the original series ending stopped feeling quite as good. For years the Platinum Edition box was all I had. When I was younger I didn't know of the existence of EoE. I feel like seeing it both ways has given me a better understanding of the series as a whole. Overall I thought that it was a great experience and am very pleased with watching it that way. Bonus points for not having that brain splatter sound in EoE as well. I'd say the greatest difference that I noticed however is that the side characters felt a little more consistent (and I'm not just talking about all the actor changes in EoE's dub). Asuka's actors do a great job in both versions however I felt like her German sounded more authentic in the dub. Rei, Gendo, Fuyutsuki, Misato's actors are very good in both versions so I feel about equal there. I felt like she brought a very likable child like innocence to Shinji as opposed to Spike Spencer's (which has its own merits). ![]() The second reason is that it wasn't until a few years ago that I became used to subtitles to the degree at which I can follow a more complex series.Īt first I found it a little weird however it grew on me very quickly. It's very hard for me to switch versions when the actors of one version are so deeply ingrained in my mind from a young age. The first of which is that when I first saw the series (not in it's entirety but at all) in 2003 I was about 11 or 12 years old. There are a couple reasons for that specifically. It's probably somewhere in the 10th to 15th time that I've seen the whole series but, it's the first time that I can recall watching it subbed all the way through. So I just finished my recent Eva rewatch. However, we value your opinions, so you are free to state why you think our decision was wrong concerning a post. If we decide it should stay, it will stay.
